Outdoor Curriculum
Ambition
At Pineham Barns we firmly believe that outdoor learning experiences are remembered for a lifetime. By integrating learning and outdoor experiences, whether within our school grounds or on Welly Walks further afield, we provide relevance and depth to our whole school curriculum, values and eco-friendly ethos. It is our ambition that our Outdoor Curriculum, enables our children to challenge their thinking, be inquisitive and engage in the world around them, making sure that they have an understanding of the challenges that we face as a society.
Implementation
Learning outdoors has an outstanding foundation within our Early Years setting where all children engage in activities in our immediate, high quality school environment on a daily basis. The school grounds are the first step in taking our pupils outdoors.
As our children move into Key Stage 1, they are exposed each fortnight to a progressive range of sustainable outdoor learning experiences on Welly Walks within our local area. This then becomes once each half term as they progress into Key Stage 2. On our Welly Walks, we aim to maximise the use of local contexts and use repeat visits at different levels to add depth to the totality of experiences.
Impact
Through our curriculum, all our children develop the skills of enquiry, critical thinking and reflection necessary for our students to meet the social, economic and environmental challenges of life in the 21st century and beyond.
