Maths

Maths is an essential and exciting part of our daily life at school. We want to make sure all pupils can become confident mathematicians with all the necessary skills to use Maths in daily life.
We look to use cross-curricular activities so key concepts are reinforced and illustrated in real life contexts.
Our lessons are fun, interactive and fast paced to ensure children enjoy the lessons and build resilience towards challenges.
Implementation
We teach Maths through progressive objects which challenge and support pupils in all areas of the curriculum including numbers, place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, shape, position, direction and movement, measure and statistics.
Our arithmetic sessions are fast paced and use ongoing assessment to support and challenge pupils. Across the school we make sure pupils have a range of practical resources to boost their understanding. This begins in the Early Years, and as children build on their knowledge as they move through the school, we provide increasing opportunities to demonstrate their reasoning skills and apply their skills to solve complex problems.
To support home learning we offer parent workshops to explain the methods used so they can be fully involved in their child’s learning.

Impact
Our children are confident, resilient and develop a love for Maths. Our outcomes demonstrate this. In 2023 for example 93% of children left at the expected standard in Key Stage Two SATS with 40% leaving at Greater Depth.
