Personal Development

Inspiring Difference makers of the future.

At Pineham Barns, we are passionate about building the Difference Makers of the Future. Through a rich curriculum which is woven with exceptional opportunities and experiences, we are empowering empathetic and aspirational individuals, who aren’t afraid to challenge perceptions and actively celebrate diversity.

To fulfil our aspirations, we have created a curriculum and enrichment plan which builds progressively to provide our children with the skills and knowledge to become responsible, respectful and active learners.

At the centre of our curriculum are our school values of Kindness, Aspiration, Respect & Tolerance, Responsibility, Co-operation & Determination. These values have been carefully chosen to ensure that they complement our curriculum and enrichment opportunities in building the Difference Makers of the Future.

Through the Vehicle of ‘Well-Being Wednesday’s’ children engage with the RPSHE curriculum. They develop the knowledge and understanding to become resilient individuals who are aware of strategies to support their own mental health through our Well-Being Curriculum. They develop an understanding of how to be active and responsible citizens through our Citizenship strands, which also ensure that they have a deep-rooted respect for Modern British Values.

Our children’s understanding is further developed and enhanced through assemblies, Worldly Wise Weeks and key experiences and opportunities to enable them to deepen and apply their understanding.

To deepen our children’s understanding, we have developed a Key People Overview that progressively builds from Early Years to Year Six. This overview enables our children to further challenge perceptions, by focusing on key people who have a protected characteristic or who have had a significant impact on our community both at a global, national and local level. This is further enhanced by our Worldly Wise Weeks, which enable our children to celebrate diversity by focusing on a protected characteristic each term. During these weeks, our school comes together to celebrate diversity and challenge perceptions through carefully tailored opportunities and experiences, which enable our children to open their eyes and ask challenging questions to develop a deep sense of respect.

To enable our children to be the Difference Makers, we have carefully crafted different strategies to further enhance and deepen their understanding. These include:

– Progressive enrichment opportunities from Early Years to Year Six. Visits, visitors and other experiences, including linking with local charities, are carefully selected to create empathetic learners; build aspiration; celebrate diversity and challenge perceptions, ultimately making our children the Difference Makers.

– Daily Assemblies around a key theme which are mapped to ensure children continue to build on the curriculum, including delivering key messages around safeguarding, online safety and values.

– A well-being team who work with the children to support them in times of crisis, whether it be at home or school. There are a number of highly skilled members of staff who provide lunch clubs, one to one sessions and work closely with parents to support the well-being of our pupils.

– Pupil Groups enhance the work of our school, by representing the pupil voice of our school. They work together to make improvements to our school in a number of ways and we are very proud of their achievements.
