Science
Ambition
Our goal is to instill in pupils the knowledge and skills they need to make sense of the world around them and revel in its wonders. We work to give all pupils the tools they need to effectively question results and provide hands-on practical experiments making use of the school’s inspiring indoor and outdoor learning spaces.
Our Eco Curriculum works to inspire our pupils to live healthy and fulfilled lives, becoming citizens of the world and making a contribution towards a more sustainable future for all.
Implementation
We follow a three step system when delivering science: Knowledge, Depth and Review.
We firstly give our pupils time to acquire, explore and understand new areas of scientific knowledge allowing them to make links to other areas of learning both within and outside of the science curriculum.
After this process the children then solidify their understanding through carefully planned scientific investigations allowing them to take part in engaging and innovative work. Throughout Key Stage 2 we develop independence and more choice in the areas they wish to investigate.
Finally, children make links between the knowledge they have gained and the experiences they’ve taken part in to deepen that understanding, explaining their learning in a range of ways.
In addition to this we deliver ecologically aware ‘green’ units to grow awareness of environmentally important concepts.
Impact
Our children experience exciting, creative and fun opportunities from the visitors we have to investigations they participate in during science lessons, celebration days and science week. Our ongoing assessments make sure all pupils are progressing effectively against the expectations and outcomes for each year group, while all pupils leave us with a heightened ecological awareness and a strong sense of environmental responsibility.
